5. The committee
approved the proposal to allow transfer students to enter Harris in the first
group at fall registration because for many of them it is critical to get the
classes they need as soon as possible as many of them have less than eight semesters
to complete a major.
6. MIPs - Update
28 students have done MIPs
9 students have so far done at least one MAP
1 student has done two MAPs
24 did a MIP between the first and second year
2 did a MIP between the second and third year
2 did a MIP between the third year and fourth year
The two seniors are PSY majors and each did a MIP in PSY (all psy majors are required to do a senior seminar). One junior is a MATH major and he did it in PHE. One junior is a PHI major and she did it in PHIL.
7. Independent
Majors: The committee discussed and reviewed the application process for independent
majors. Several students over the last few years that have been academically
strong enough to complete an adequate senior thesis which is now designated
as a MAP. It has been proposed that there should be a minimum GPA requirement
for doing an independent major. The committee decided that it would be a good
idea to find out at this time how faculty and students felt about such an idea.
The committee charged itself with the task of asking each of the divisions and
the student cc the following question: What do you think of a requirement of
a GPA of 3.0 to be eligible to do an independent major?
8. Jim Swartz passed out the Transcript Analysis Report recently done by Carol Trosset. It will be discussed in detail at our next meeting.
