September 21, 2004
Members: James
Swartz (Chair), Gerald Adams, Daniel Reynolds, Lee Sharpe, Jean Ketter, Andrew

1. The minutes
from the 9/7/04 meeting were approved.
2. New Course-BIO
345--Approved.
3. New Course-BIO
355---Approved
4. The committee
decided to table until our next meeting the proposal to allow transfer students
to enter Harris in the first group at fall registration because for many of
them it is critical to get the classes they need as soon as possible as many
of them have less than eight semesters to complete a major.
5. The Committee
reviewed the materials submitted regarding the formation of MIPs in the spring
of 2002. The original proposal called for a review after three years. The committee
decided to start that review by first asking the science division to discuss
how the MIPs have been working in light of their proposed intent. In addition,
the SGA curriculum committee will review their experiences with MIPs. The Registrar
will provide some additional data on the students who have completed MIPs to
date.
6. Possible future
agenda items:
a. Extra credit for lab courses
b. Class size of seminars
c. Staffing for such courses as GWS 111
d. Expectations and role of short courses
e. Review of the Independent major, including a minimum GPA requirement.
