1. The minutes from the 9/5/00 meeting were approved as corrected.
2. The application deadline for Independent Study was discussed. A number of suggestions were made with regard to the wording of the announcement to be sent to students and faculty. Those corrections will appear on the next agenda. There was a brief discussion as to how this information will be shared with faculty and students. The committee decided that one version addressed to students will appear in the Memo in October and January. The Registrar will put a similar notice in the Schedule of Courses for 2001-2002. Finally, an e-mail will be sent to all faculty which will give them a brief summary of the change to take place with a link to the full notice. The Registrar will draft an e-mail message for the committee to review at the next meeting.
3. The committee will have a general discussion with Helen Scott at our next meeting regarding the quantity and quality of independent studies.
4. The work done by last year's committee on a revision to the process we currently use for course changes of all types was discussed. The committee felt that this year's committee should begin by reviewing the work done last year. We will also review the process used to make changes to concentrations. There was also a general discussion of what should or should not be listed in the catalog with regard to the offerings listed by each department. No conclusions or recommendations were reached at this time.
