Curriculum Committee
4:15 p.m., Tuesday, September 11, 2001
PDR F

Members: Gerald Adams, Gail Bonath, Pablo Silva, and Bob Grey.

The proposed agenda items below were briefly reviewed with the Committee. It was noted that the Executive Council has passed a motion "asking the Curriculum Committee to take a formal look at the MAP program and to make appropriate recommendations to the Executive Council. Council is particularly interested in the Curriculum Committee's thorough study of the educational effect of MAP and once Council receives that report, Council will look at the resource issues related to continuation of the MAP projects if we were to decide to continue them. Council hopes that the committee will look at data compiled by the Dean's office on MAP activity and outcomes as well as research conducted by Carol Trossett and Dave Lopatto." Paula Smith will be at the next Curriculum Committee meeting to begin the discussion of the scope, methodology and timeline for the assessment of the MAP program. In addition, the Registrar briefly reviewed a proposal for improving the way changes are made to the academic section of the Catalog. It was also suggested that the Committee review the current Course proposal. The Registrar has a simple proposal for lining up new students for fall registration that would prevent students from lining up at 5:00am. It would also allow them to get lunch rather than stand in line for several hours with little or nothing to do. We do not have a timeline at this time for when we will see an American Studies Concentration. The Registrar would like the Committee to review the timeline for the production of the Catalog with the idea of spreading the process more evenly over the academic year so that we are not asking departments to review their section as late in the spring as we presently do.

Proposed agenda items:

1. Course proposal process and catalog revision process.
2. Revision of Course Proposal form.
3. Assessment of MAPs.
4. American Studies Concentration
5. Why do we cross-list courses? Why is MAT 115 cross-listed as SST 115?
6. A timeline for catalog production.
7. Proposal for lining up first-year students for registration in the fall.

Notes:
Paula Smith will attend the 9/25 meeting to discuss the assessments of MAPs
At the Nov 6 meeting we will review the Spring Internship applications.
