Curriculum Committee
January 30, 2007
Members: James Swartz (Chair), Gerald Adams, Eliza Willis, Erin Hurley, Lee Sharpe, Dan Reynolds, Jason Cook, and Michael Billups.
1. The minutes of 11/28/2006 meeting were approved.
2. Pre-registration and confirmation was reviewed. There was general agreement that everything went well. It was decided that we will continue to use a three day turn around to obtain cuts from faculty and that we would not require signatures for classes not at capacity. It was stressed that the registration process in the late fall and the spring be as similar as possible. There are no proposed changes for the August registration in Harris.
3. A recommendation to CAS needs to be made soon regarding the final exam periods for next year. Do we continue with 8 exam periods?
4. The committee finalized a discussion paper on the ad hoc distribution requirements for OCS, Independent Major, Second Major, and early graduation to be presented at divisional meetings soon. The committee will use the results of these discussions to formulate a formal proposal to be submitted to the full faculty for approval.
5. It was agreed that we would discuss the MAP assessment by division at our next meeting.
6. Future agenda items:
a. Frequency of Special Topic courses taught by part-time term faculty.
b. Policies concerning why students are cut from courses.
