Minutes
Curriculum Committee
January 27, 2004
Members: James Swartz (Chair), Gerald Adams, Diane Robertson, Andy Hamilton, Tyler Roberts, Mark Montgomery, Devan McGranahan, Lilly Radoshevich, and Elizabeth Clark.
1. The minutes of the 12/02/03 meeting were approved.
2. Carol Trosset
presented to the committee a list of questions (see attached) on Independent
Study (297, 387, 397) that would be distributed to departments as well as individual
faculty. The committee decided to survey the faculty first and then the departments.
It was also decided that we would survey tenured, untenured tenure-track, and
untenured regular faculty. Each faculty member who has directed independents
will be given a list of the independents they have guided in the past years.
We will look at a draft set of questions at our next meeting.
3. The Production
Plan for a Two-Year Catalog was presented to the committee for their information.
4. There was a
general discussion on the nature of cross-listing of courses. No conclusions
or recommendations were reached but we will continue the discussion at our next
meeting. The Registrar will bring a list of the current cross-listed courses.
5. There are a
growing number of special students who are attempting to enroll in classes that
are filled, and in some cases degree-seeking students have been excluded from
some of these classes as they have been over subscribed. The Registrar will
bring a proposal to the committee sometime this spring for a policy and procedure
for enrolling special students into courses.
6. The committee decided that we would continue our discussion of option #4 regarding the compensations of MAPs.
