Discussion of curricular development request:
· ISC supports proposals that increase
diversity, add new pedagogy, and are interdisciplinary.
· The proposal under review does
not fit well into those guidelines. The question was raised if
funds could requested from another committee. The proposal can
be resubmitted.
· Question of what constitutes "materials":
Historically, they have included workshops, reading group materials,
and photocopies.
· ISC does not support other materials,
but proposals may be resubmitted with clarification to fall under
a specific rubric.
· Suggestion to remove "Materials"
category from request form and substitute "Workshop Materials."
· The request under consideration
may meet Mellon guidelines as a multimedia course.
· ISC will not approve this request
for materials, but suggest resubmitting to another committee.
Films should be incorporated into the departmental budget. A
stipend could be requested and materials purchased from those
funds. Rebecca will draft a letter explaining the committee's
decision.
