Discussion of Library Budget :

  • Most new subscriptions that were requested in FY 09 were put on hold due to the economic situation.

  • The FY 10 budget cuts have not affected book purchases or required cancellation of subscriptions.

  • For FY11-12 planning, representatives from the Library will meet with divisions to discuss planning under way in case budget reductions are necessary. Cost of subscriptions will be available. Faculty will be asked to prioritize subscription needs. Staff who rely on journals—Labs and Faulconer Gallery, for example—should have input as well.  Departments should work with their SEPC to determine student priorities.

  • Consulting librarians will work closely with their departments. Projected timeline:

    • November 1: Faculty should have prioritized lists to the Library.

    • March 1: A list of prospective non-renewals will be on the Library's web page.

There is concern about what impact these cuts will have on how faculty do their jobs
