Report on new AV-support position : Additional AV support in classrooms is needed, particularly in the ARH/Carnegie cluster. The CTS position to be housed in the sciences has not been filled. In addition, one of the academic support assistant positions will not be filled at this time due to the current budget environment. This one-year experimental AV support position, with technical skills mid-range between academic support and CTS, will help fill the need for classroom support. This person will be housed in the Carnegie academic support office, and will be available during teaching hours. The two CTSs are and will continue to reach out to faculty, especially those in the sciences and social studies to make sure that needs for curricular development projects are met.

Curricular development guidelines revision : Guidelines currently on the web are useful for two audiences: on campus users and as a recruiting tool. The layout of the web needs to be clear for both. There are multiple sources of funding on campus for similar events and activities. It is difficult for faculty to know where to apply. Leslie is working with the Centers and others to create an inventory of funding sources. These various sources will be referenced from ISC's pages.

Specific discussion of ISC's curricular development guidelines included:

  • suspension of providing regular lunches. Teaching and Learning Discussion Groups have been very successful. Some money may be available for either a planning session or to use throughout the year.
  •  independent summer stipends related to EKI have been discontinued.
  • language, specifically "Proposals are more likely to be funded …". Language should make clear that proposals need to address relevant criteria from this list. Committee members can use this rubric to evaluate proposals in preparation for discussion.

Curricular development proposal:

Kabir Festival: This proposal takes advantage of having a group of musicians from India who will be touring the US. The group also includes a film maker who has made a documentary dealing with questions of religious identity and conflict between Hindus and Muslims. Discussion tabled until the next meeting.

Respectfully submitted,
Terri Phipps
