Attending: Jon Chenette, Anatoly Vishevsky, Cecilia Knight, Mark Schneider, Christopher McKee, Justin Abramson, Margarita Pillado, Katya Gibel Azoulay Minutes of last meeting approved as distributed. Fast Track: Classroom visitor for REL 226 approved. The visitor will be traveling from Virginia. However, the maximum amount ISC will fund for classroom visitors is $164.00, no matter the distance traveled. Update on Steiner 305: Jon met with various Steiner faculty and others to discuss the use of Steiner 305 when Religious Activities is moved to the Joe Rosenfield Center. The group drafted a classroom configuration, which after further discussion with faculty not able to attend the meeting, will need to be revised. Departmental faculty would like to have a departmental "stamp" on the room (decorations, etc.). The room will be available for non-departmental classes. Summer workshop proposals: All workshop proposals received so far will be advertised. Whether particular workshops are offered will depend on the level of interest and the amount of available funding. Writing Lab proposals: Proposals are parallel to CTSs earning certification in their areas. The training will be beneficial to their work with students, and they will share the skills learned with other Writing Lab staff as well as through presentations to interested faculty groups. This type of training is typically funded through the Dean's office staff development budget. However, that budget has been depleted. ISC believes the pedagogical aspect of this training will be valuable to the College, but it does not fit existing ISC funding categories. Therefore, ISC voted to endorse the Dean's use of Curricular Development funds to pay for these individual proposals. Forum / ITS: This is not a building project, rather a renovation. Trustees do not need to give approval. The final decision concerning the move of ITS to the Forum has been made by President Osgood and will be announced to campus soon. Holabird and Root will give input on design for the public computing space located in the Grill area. The committee overseeing this proposed move will meet with Holabird and Root on Thursday, March 9. Jon, Mark, Megan, and Justin will attend as representatives of ISC. Individuals with differing opinions on the appropriate use of the Forum may be invited, but will be advised that it is a design meeting, not an opportunity to voice opposition to a decision that has already been made. The time available for the meeting with Holabird and Root will be short, so the meeting will need to be efficient. Additional workshop proposals: The Associate Deans' Office has received a list of technology workshop proposals in addition to curricular development workshops already approved for advertising. These technology workshops include ARTstor/PDID, Digital Video, Building a Course Web Site, GIS, RefWorks, and Poster Printing. These will be advertised with the non-technology-related workshops. Future agenda items: The role of ISC in EKI has been on the agenda for some time. Members agreed that this issue has been adequately addressed for now as we have made decisions on EKI-related workshops and other funding proposals. AV Interface: Jon offered Carleton College as an example of a place that has made progress in installing standardized and user-friendly interfaces for classroom AV equipment. They have installed easily navigated touch screen devices for vcr/dvd, computer, etc. connections. Respectfully submitted, |
