The meeting came to order at 4:20 p.m. in the Nollen Conference Room.
The minutes and excerpts of the 11/10/04 meeting were approved.
President's Remarks
He noted that he had just returned from interviewing Rhodes Scholars candidates. He also mentioned that the College had just hosted a successful three day meeting of the Associated Colleges of the Midwest.
Dean's Remarks
The Dean noted that he had just returned from the Dean's review of the Mellon 8 Faculty Career Enhancement proposals for research leaves and summer stipends. Jackie Brown was awarded a research leave and Leslie Gregg-Jolly and Raquel Greene were awarded summer stipends.
Council Remarks
There were no Council remarks.
Diversity Proposal
The Council has received three diversity proposals to bring specific candidates to campus for interviews from the departments of political science, sociology, and physics. Additional proposals are expected soon. There was discussion of the three proposals and in all cases the departments were invited to bring in one or more candidates for interviews.
The President left the meeting at 5:40 p.m.
Expanding Knowledge Initiative
W. Moyer reviewed plans for presenting the progress of the Initiative to the faculty at a meeting on Monday. The Committee has created a packet which includes a number (1-6) for sorting faculty into one of six focus groups on Monday which will go out to all faculty members this week. He reviewed what is in these packets.
