Physics Department Position Description
B. Voyles moved, M. Pillado-Miller seconded, approval of the Physics Department tenure-track position description. There was a fairly lengthy discussion of how to effectively incorporate the College's concern for enhancement of diversity in faculty appointments. It was agreed that for this position description the following sentence would be inserted "In their letters of application, candidates should address their interest in teaching in a diverse undergraduate, liberal-arts environment that emphasizes close faculty-student interaction." It was also agreed that next year Council would prefer to see the following statement included in all advertisements: "In their applications, candidates should address their interest in teaching and research in an undergraduate, liberal-arts environment that emphasizes close student-faculty interaction and values diversity." It was also agreed that, until further notice, the number reflecting the size of the student body should be 1300.
The amended position description was approved.
