The meeting was called to order by the President at 4:20 p.m. in Nollen House.

The minutes and excerpts of the meeting of February 16, 2000 were corrected and approved.

Remarks of the Dean

The Dean updated Council on the status of faculty searches.

Discussion of Fund for Excellence Proposals

The President discussed his initial thoughts and major themes of the 34 Spring 2000 proposals. Council members presented their individual reactions to the proposals. A lengthy discussion ensued. The President asked to continue this discussion at the next Council meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 6:05 p.m.
