Summary
Admission and Financial Aid Committee Meeting
March 5, 2007
(A) Sumner reported on the hiring of a new assistant dean of admission & multicultural admission coordinator (Bryan Coy), the on-going search for a new associate dean and international admission coordinator, and the untimely resignation of an admission counselor,
(B) Sumner reported the following new student enrollment information; total applications for admission are up slightly to 3,888 as of March 5 & compared to 2.419 on March 8, 1999, Early Decision applications ended at 172d vs. 161 last year, international student applications are up, and US student of color of applications are down (details show the following; 213 African-Am apps this year vs. 231 last year, 275 Asian-Am apps vs. 260 last year, 201 Latina/o apps vs. 232 last year, 24 Native-Am apps vs. 38 last year),
(C) in response to an earlier inquiry by a Committee member Sumner reported international selectivity last year was at 5% compared to an overall selectivity percentage of 37,
(D) Sumner updated the Committee on the regular activity of the Faculty Board on Admission saying that the Board had been meeting weekly for about 2 hours per week to decided previously read applications for admission, and
(E) Sagrans led a brief discussion of test optional admission and with the goal of spending more time on the topic at the next meeting.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 1:15 PM.
