Summary
Admission and Financial Aid Committee Meeting
December 7, 2005

(A) Sumner updated the Com. on the Early Decision process since the ED-I deadline had passed, saying that it appeared that we would again experience an increase in ED applicants this year. The ED-II date was still to come so only a partial picture could be painted. He also commented on the large number of fall campus visitors and the very positive reception admission travelers have received while visiting about 400 secondary schools and college fairs during the fall semester,

(B) The idea of need-sensitive admission for wait-listed students was discussed briefly as a way of increasing net tuition revenues for the College. The idea did not receive a warm welcome and will be re-visited at the next meeting,

(C) Professor Moyer asked Sumner and the admission staff to suggest some new ideas for the Faculty Fairs held on campus for prospective students. Sumner agreed to do this for the Committee’s next meeting (see # 3 below), and

(D) Sumner was also asked to collect some data on how merit scholarship winners perform at the College (e.g., graduation rates, grades earned here, etc.). He agreed to do this during the spring semester.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:15 PM.

Some ideas for the Faculty Fairs on campus;

(A) Serve food, coffee, tea and soft drinks for the comfort of all attendees and to encourage everyone to stick around and talk
(B) Add chairs behind the tables for the comfort of the professors
(C) Add 4 division sessions (humanities, social sciences, sciences and math., fine arts) during the day’s program and offer them more than once per day
(D) Use round or thinner tables to help promote conversations
(E) Move to the new Rosenfield Center for the fall, 2006 programs
(F) Prepare & distribute a tip sheet for participating professors
(G) Prepare & distribute a tip sheet for participating prospective students and their parents
(H) Reorganize the day’s schedule to include more class visits
(I) Morph the Faculty Fair into the Closing Reception
