Summary
Admission and Financial Aid Committee Meeting
March 6, 2006
Sumner brought the Committee up to date on the current admission cycle. He specifically commented on the activity of the Faculty Board on Admission (it is meeting weekly for 2 hours and deciding about 20 thoroughly read apps. at each session), the final ED numbers for the year (more ED apps., more ED admits and more ED deposits than ever, 30% of the entering class), the overall app. pool (slightly fewer total apps. and more completed apps.), and the processing of this year’s applications for admission (decision letters are due to be mailed on March 21).
The Committee then again took up the proposal of need-sensitive admission of wait listed students as a method of increasing net tuition revenue. In the end the Committee decided not to permit need-sensitive admission making for WL students, but, rather, to provide less cash rich aid packages as a way to increase net tuition revenue. The Committee feels that this allows the College to continue to honor its policy of need-blind admission and still try to improve NTR.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:05 PM.
