Summary
Admission and Financial Aid Committee Meeting
September 13, 2004

The meeting was called to order at 12:05 PM

Introductions were made and a special welcome was offered to the Committee's new members Emerson Williams-Molett, Paul Tjossem and Wayne Moyer. Emerson is serving as a student representative appointed by the student-body president, Paul is representing the College's mathematics and science division, and Wayne is serving on the Committee in his role as current chair of the College faculty.

Jim Sumner (new students) and Tom Crady (overall) provided a report on current enrollment, reminding the Committee that final numbers are not available until after Sept. 18. Sumner described the class as especially well prepared academically (e.g., median SAT = 1380 and ACT = 30+), socio-economically, geographically, and religiously very diverse, moderately diverse ethnically, and larger than expected. Tom pointed out that as a result of 2 larger than planned entering classes and increased retention the College's total enrollment is greater than expected.

The Committee then identified the following topics as worthy of its attention this academic year:

* Posse Foundation-GC relationship update(s)
* Consideration of an increase in the advance deposit paid by enrolling new students

* Enrollment of student-athletes update
* Enrollment and admission cycle updates
* Admission and aid of international students
* Overview of admission and financial aid strategic planning, recent past and present
* The marketing of the College
* Relationship(s) with Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The names of Amy Chin, Loraine Cooper and Dr. Jontyle T. Robinson were presented as especially good contacts in this regard, as well as Kate ? At Spellman or Morehouse

The meeting was adjourned at 1:10 PM.

--Jim Sumner
