Summary
Admission and Financial Aid Committee Meeting
February 2, 2004

The meeting was called to order at 12:10 PM.

The Committee continued its discussion of the value and need for an exchange program with a historically African-American college or university. Sumner reported on his efforts to collect information regarding previous or existing such agreements (please see summary of Dec. meeting for details), and Dean Swartz eventually volunteered to raise this issue with the Off-Campus Study Board.

Dean Sortor then reported to the Committee on behalf of the campus writing advisory group; that group recommended to the Committee that the College require the new SAT writing section of all applicants for admission, that the College not use the writing score in the admission decision making process, and that the College use the writing score as part of its on-going research on the writing skills of its student body. The Committee accepted the recommendation.

Sumner gave the Committee a brief application report and distributed several pieces of printed information as background for the Committee members.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:10 PM.
