Minutes
Admission and Financial Aid Committee Meeting
February 3, 2003
The meeting was convened at noon in the John Chrystal Center with all members present.
The Committee welcomed back Committee member Danijela Gazibara who was away studying off campus for the fall, 2002 semester. Junior student Geo. Yeboah served as a temporary replacement for Dani while she was away, and the Committee thanked Geo. for his service.
Scott Baumler and Jim Sumner led a discussion and presentation of recent market research commissioned by the College. 2 pieces of research were conducted; 1 by an Iowa company measured opinions and attitudes of prospective students, current students and alumni. The other conducted by a Minnesota company measured the opinions of secondary students in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin and was less Grinnell specific. A complete copy of the presentation was distributed to the entire Committee electronically immediately following the meeting.
The research provides good background for Committee members as they weigh admission, scholarship and financial aid policy decisions, and continues to be both fresh and available in full to any member interested in it. The Committee generally agreed that the research was disappointing in that it did not shed any bright light (and therefore guidance) on the College's current market position. Several smaller pieces of information were gleaned that are likely to be of future use.
The
meeting was adjourned at 1:15 PM.
