1) In reviewing the summary of our April 16 meeting the following additions were noted; Ivy Chang pointed out that we had started the meeting with a brief discussion of the possibility of developing a need sensitive admission policy for international students, with Sumner encouraging Committee members to email him with their opinions of such a policy, and Professor Patch pointed out that the committee had agreed (after reviewing research provided by Carol Trosset and some discussion) that the current 36 point admission rating scale is being sufficiently utilized to remain intact for the time being.
2) Sumner provided an admission update pointing out that as of April 30 we had received a few more deposits compared to April 30, 2000. He promised to give the committee an email update later in the week.
3) Eric Staab, Associate Dean of Admission and Coordinator of International Admission, led a discussion of the pros and cons, managerial and otherwise, of developing a need sensitive admission policy for international students. After some discussion the committee. asked Eric and the Office of Admission to prepare a recommendation for the committee. It was agreed that such a recommendation will be presented to the committee in the Fall along with Eric's annual report which will provide considerable background that will help the committee. make its decision.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:15 PM.
