Admission and Financial Aid Committee
Summary of Meeting
April 16, 2001

The Committee met for nearly 90 minutes, primarily in discussion with Scott Baumler and Carol Trosset from the College's Office of Institutional Research. Carol and Scott shared several pieces of both new and less recent research that either the Committee requested or that they thought the Committee would find of interest.

Topics of particular interest to the Committee were

(A) the correlation between admission ratings and admission decisions made by the Faculty Board on Admission;
(B) the correlation between ACT scores, SAT scores, secondary school class rank, and academic performance at Grinnell College;
(C) the extent to which the full admission rating point system is utilized; and
(D) how the POC rating is reflected in student participation/excellence after enrollment at the College.

Discussion was so extensive that Scott and Carol agreed to meet again with the Committee as soon as their schedules allowed (May 14).

Sumner provided an admission update.

The meeting was adjourned shortly before 1:30 PM
