1) Sumner provided a brief update on the current admission picture for this coming fall. The applicant pool remains strong academically and has grown over last year. All of the applicant pool growth and then some is in international applications. Applications for US multi-cultural students are up as well, except for those received from Hispanic/Latina/Latino students. A long, good list of yield activities is scheduled for April, including 3 on-campus programs that will attract approximately 400 visitors (admitted students and their parents).
2). Sumner presented a near-final draft of the recommendations to be made to the Board of Trustees next month concerning ways to improve the College's net revenue picture as it relates to admission and financial aid. The list of recommendations includes those endorsed by the Committee earlier in the academic year and no others. No objections to the recommendations were voiced.
3). Most of the meeting was devoted to conversation between the Committee and the Board on Admission (3 members were present; Professor Patch, who also serves on the Committee, Professor Cummins and Sumner) on the Board's activities this semester, and Board opinions of their process and results. There was general agreement that the process works well and should remained unchanged for the time being.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:15 PM.
