Admission and Financial Aid Committee
Meeting Summary
February 19, 2001

1. Most of the meeting was devoted to an update on the just completed meeting of the Trustee Task Force on Increased Net Revenue via admission and financial aid. Sumner distributed a packet prepared for the Task Force and those Committee members who attended the weekend Task Force meeting reported on that meeting. In general, the Task Force agreed with our campus Committee that becoming need sensitive in the admission process, and holding firm the institutional grants of returning students as prices increase, are undesirable possibilities. The Task Force plans to have 1 conference call meeting this spring and present it's final report and recommendations to the full Board of Trustees at the May meeting.

2. Sumner tried to answer 2 questions raised by Professor Moore at the previous meeting concerning the Annual admission Report distributed to the faculty in Jan.

3. Sumner and Professor Patch provided an update report on the progress of the Faculty Board on Admission.

4. Sumner distributed some general admission background information to the Committee in an effort to keep the Committee informed and for possible future reference.

5. Some Committee members suggested we might like to consider the following 2 questions at future meetings; (A) Is the full point system currently in use to rank candidates for admission being utilized (it was suggested that Dr. Trossett might be able to help us with this question, and (B) Can we measure the Promise of Contribution (POC) as it plays out following students' enrollment at the College)?
