Dear Reader, Despite The Cyclone’s delinquent history and the inevitable cycles of collegiate procrastination, it is here—The 2005 Cyclone! Grinnell’s yearbook has always been on the unconventional side: largely photo based, minimal text, and black and white; this year however, we decided to take these qualities to an even greater extreme. We approached this year’s book, above all else, as photographers, and as minimalists for everything else. We took every photograph with the idea that it could stand-alone as a piece of art—and then we compiled them all to create a memory book. Despite its photography soul, the heart of this book is still that of a traditional yearbook in that it serves to facilitate and inspire remembrance. Yes, admittingly, events and individuals are missing. Photographers missed the Saturday morning football game after covering Friday Night’s concert, uninspiring Harris party pictures taken by staff members participating in the festivities were thrown out, and seemingly quintessential Grinnellians such as Patrick Waldo are missing form this publication entirely. Regardless of these inherent shortcomings, I hope that this year’s Cyclone helps to inspire remembrance of a time since past at Grinnell College. Thanks for reading. in solidarity, |
