Kerry conceded the election to the incumbent
George W. Bush the morning after the election once Ohio’s electoral
votes went to Bush. Iowa and New Mexico were still counting votes at the
time of Kerry’s concession speach. Nearly two weeks later it was anounced
that Bush had won Iowa with %50.1 compared to Kerry’s %49.2. Kerry
won Powesheik county by a margin of 66 votes, compared to Bush winning by
over 600 in the 2000 election against democrat canidate Al Gore. The 2004
election was considered one of the most important and polarizing elections
in American history. American’s were split on issues such as the Iraq
War, homeland security, the rising national debt, and eventual Supreme Court
nominations. However Bush’s stance on the moral issues of gay marriage
and abortion ultimatly won him the election.
