| My
interest in the Prairie focuses on what has come to be known
as Prairie-style architecture, particularly that by Frank Lloyd
Wright, his mentor Louis Sullivan, and his colleagues Walter
Burley Grifffin and Marion Mahony Griffin. Their buildlings
beautifully reflect the landscape and spirit of the Prairie
and are for me an endless source of inspiration. I have twice
taught a Tutorial called "Frank Lloyd Wright," in
which we consider these architects and some of their works from
a variety ofperspectives. We draw upon the two architectural
landmarks in Grinnell, Sullivan's Merchant's Bank and the Ricker
House by Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin, as
"primary sources," and travel to Mason City, IA and
Oak Park, IL to see other buildings first-hand. |
