The Grinnell Youth Conservation Corps (GYCC) is composed of a crew of high school students that works on conservation projects in Grinnell's parks for 8 weeks during the summer. The crew is led by a Grinnell College student who coordinates the program activities and works alongside the crew. Program History
"The practice of conservation must spring from a conviction of what is ethically and asethetically right, as well as what is economically expedient. A thing is right only when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability, and beauty of the community; and the community includes the soil, waters, fauna, and flora, as well as people." -Aldo Leopold GYCC Sponsors Imagine Grinnell provides grant and planning support. The Center for Prairie Studies at Grinnell College sponsors the position of the Grinnell College student supervisor. The City of Grinnell employs the high school student workers, and provides helpful tactical assistance for the crew throughout the summer. |
