Groups for First Informal Presentation (September 3, Tuesday)

For our meeting on September 3, Tuesday, please read Michael Ashkenazi and Jeanne Jacob, "A Framework for Discussion," in The Essence of Japanese Cuisine: An Essay on Food and Culture (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2000), pp. 15-36. Underline topic sentences and other significant arguments while reading. Pay special attention to the concepts, theories, and methodologies that the two authors have introduced for the discussion of Japanese food.
During our class meeting on Tuesday, you will be asked to present on a portion of the reading (see list below for group and assignment). Each individual presentation should last no longer than 2 minutes and group presentation no longer than 5 minutes in total, to be followed by a short question and answer session, and then critiques from your classmates. You (as a group) have to address the following questions in your presentation:

a. What is/are the main point(s) of this section?
b. What is the connection between each paragraph in this section?
c. Can you use some examples to explain the more abstract ideas?
d. Do you agree or disagree with the authors? Why?

It is highly recommended that you prepare a brief outline for your presentation to be distributed in class.
