Overview

Can we create a perfect human society with drugs? Before I answer this question, I can't help but think about my grandma and some friends. All my life, I have lived in Myanmar, one of the places where technology is least advanced, and people live very close to nature. My grandma usually prepares medicine for herself and other people in the community, using all-natural ingredients right from the forest. She refuses to take chemically prepared medicine and does not believe that modern drugs can cure one's illness completely. I also think of my friends here in the United States; some of them are on psychotropic drugs, and when they first told me that they are on these drugs because they are depressed most of the time, I was very surprised. I believe that, since we are very young people, we have the power, hope and energy to change everything. But my friends are giving themselves up to drugs, and let drugs control of their minds and rule their state of well-being

After a few years living in the United States, I have come across many people who do drugs, and have heard stories about misuse and abuse of drugs. I, therefore, have decided to dedicate my assignment to this topic and give a quick synopsis. Do easy assess to all kinds of drugs and the availability of many chemical fixes in this society create misuse and abuse? Is the culture to blame? If I have more time later in life, I would like to come back to this topic and study more to answer these questions. I want to analyse why my grandma, who lives a quasi-primitive life, does not believe in chemically prepared drugs, but likes to meditate and uses natural products as healing agents. I also want to analyse why my friends depend so much on drugs and therefore, lack the mind power to convince themselves that they can have total control of their minds without any kind from drugs.
