Reading Assignment
Due 9/24:
Reading:

Halliday, Resnick and Walker (HRW)
Chapter 28 sections 1 - 4

Questions:

1) You have a battery and two identical light bulbs and you want to light up a room as much as possible. a) Should you put the light bulbs in series, in parallel, or just use one bulb? b) Which situation will run the battery down quickest?

Draw a circuit diagram for each of these situations and explain your reasoning in terms of currents and voltages.

Brainteaser: (just for fun!)

1) You are in a room with 3 lightswitches (labeled A, B, and C) which are each connected to one of 3 lightbulbs (labeled 1, 2, and 3). You need to figure out which bulb goes each switch, but unfortunately the bulbs are down the hall and around the corner where you can't see any of them.

Suppose you are really lazy and you want to go down the hall only once but not come back. How should you set the switches so that you match the bulb with switch?

Feedback:

Which parts of the reading did you find particularly confusing? Interesting?
