The Prairie Landscape and the Arts
1st-year tutorial, Fall, 1999

 CLASS REQUIREMENTS AND GRADE

Papers 2/3
Discussion, oral performance, preparation, participation 1/3

CLASS POLICIES

Students will complete all reading and writing assignments by the beginning of the class indicated, except under the following circumstances:
1. the student has a medical emergency;
2. the student gains the instructor's approval for a 2-day extension on a paper assignment by securing approval of a typed progress report by class-time on the day the paper is due. The report should include the student's name, the title of the paper, a summary of work already completed, and an explanation of why the extension is needed.

All written work must be neatly typed and double-spaced. Include parenthetical citations and a works cited page listing all ideas and quotations gleaned from other sources. Use the formats given by Corbett.

Since tutorial seeks to improve critical reading and discussion skills, in addition to writing, I will base a significant portion of your grade (1/3) on how well you prepare, how regularly and punctually you attend, and how well you improve in ability to contribute to, lead, and learn from discussion. We will discuss your participation, oral performance, and preparation during private appointments several times during the semester. I will assign a grade to your oral work for each portion of the semester and report it to you at or soon after each private appointment.
