Technical Support
Both of the ITS Support Teams (Blue and Green) are able to install and troubleshoot the ArcGIS software. However, please be aware that neither team includes GIS users, so they cannot help with using GIS.
Curricular Development
The Curricular Technology Specialists can help faculty develop curricular projects that employ GIS.
Finding and Accessing Data
Julia Bauder, the data services librarian, can assist both students and faculty in finding the right data sets for their projects. She can also provide a limited amount of support in using the ArcGIS software.
Self-Help Resources
ESRI, the company behind ArcGIS, offers online self-study courses on many aspects of the ArcGIS software and GIS in general. Students, faculty and staff have access to these “Virtual Campus” courses free of charge as part of Grinnell College's software license with ESRI. Please contact Karen McRitchie to register for an online course.
Also, the ArcGIS documentation and a number of ArcGIS tutorials are available on the ESRI Web site.
If you are completely new to GIS, you may want to start with this PDF or this self-study course.
