Spaces (back to the top)

Three GIS-equipped computer labs, a digitizing workstation, and a large format plotter are available on the Grinnell College Campus:

Burling Library

The Interactive Instructional Facility (IIF), located in the basement of Burling Library, is the primary computer lab for GIS use on campus.

In addition, a digitizing workstation connected to a large format Calcomp digitizing tablet is located on the main floor of the library, behind the Reference Desk, and may be used upon request.

A large format networked plotter is also available through the library. To use the plotter: set up GIS_PLOTTER located at Burling Technical Services as a printer on your computer. All plots will be paused until arrangements for plotting and payment have been made.

Creative Computing Lab

The Creative Computing Lab (CCL) in the Forum supports media-intensive computing, creative projects, data representation, and research and provides a showcase for campus projects using new media technologies. ArcGIS 9.1 is installed on the two PCs in the main lab and the fifteen PCs in the training lab.

ARH 124

(Computer Classroom)

ArcGIS 9.1 is installed on all 28 PC workstations in ARH 124.

Goodnow Hall Computer Lab

The Goodnow Hall Computer Lab is located on the third floor and contains two computers. Each computer has an HP Deskjet color printer. One of the computers has a Calcomp DrawingBoard III digitizing tablet.

Tablet PC Carts in ARH and Noyce Science Center

The campus has three carts with Tablet PCs (laptops) outfitted with wireless networking in order to support flexible computing needs in classes. All of the Tablet PCs have ArcGIS installed. ARH has one cart with 12 Tablet PCs (scheduling is available through the AV Center, x3121). The other two carts, a six-pack and a twelve-pack, are in Noyce Science Center (scheduling is available through the Science Division Office, x4107).

How to reserve (back to the top)

The Burling Library IIF is scheduled through the library.  The other GIS spaces are scheduled through the Registrar for use during class hours and the Office of Communication and Events for use at times when classes are not in session.
