REASON - When operations start
behaving erratically while using shapefiles, the cause could
be the corruption of shapes within the shapefile itself. Until
ESRI tracks down the cause of corrupted shapefiles, a simple
quick fix has been created.
-
Locate program cleanshapefile.exe.
-
If cleanshapefile.exe
is present on your system.
-
navigate using a file
explorer (i.e., Windows Explorer) to a sub-directory
of the ArcGIS installation folder -
-
...arcgis\arcexe81\ArcObjects
Developer Kit\samples\utilities\cleanshapefile\.
-
If cleanshapefile.exe
is not present on your system it is probably located
in a similar sub-directory in the Grinnell College
storageserver.
-
\\Storage\ARCGIS\ArcObjects
Developer Kit\samples\utilities\cleanshapefile\.
-
If cleanshapefile.exe
is not present at Grinnell download the utility from
http://arconline.esri.com/arcobjectsonline/.
-
Enter "clean"
in the search box.
-
Open the topic "Export
and clean shapefile".
-
Click Download
Now.
-
Place in a new folder
on your computer.
-
Run the file cleanshapefile.exe.
-
It will prompt you for
an input shapefile.
-
It will then prompt you
for an output shapefile name
-
The program will chug a few
seconds and provide a brief report on changes made to
the shapefile.
