Instructions of using the Chime Plugin.

In order to follow this brief tutorial you must be using Netscape Navigator 3.0 or higher with the MDL Chemscape Chime plug-in installed. Other Browsers will not function correctly with the Chime Plugin.

The molecule to the right is not just a pretty picture it is a controlable object.

You can click and drag the mouse to rotate the molecule around its X or Y axis.

If you click and hold the mouse button (Mac) or click witht he Right Mouse button (Win), you get a menu which looks like the one below.

Here are some brief explanations of the menu comands that you will use most commonly.

Rotation- Checking this item will cause the molecule to rotate automatically.

Display - This will allow you to change the way in which you view the molecule. Wireframe, Sticks, Ball and Stick and SpaceFilling (Van Der Waals or Anisotropic Temperature).

Options - This selection includes a variety of ways to manipulate and display data about the molecule in question. These are shown in the figure below.

Some of the functions of the Options sub menu are described below.

You can display a dot surface and choose to show either Van der Waals radii or the molecule in a Connolly-Richards Solvent by choosing the appropriate option from the Dot surface sub-menu.

The Labels item will place identifying labels on the atoms within the molecule.
