Andrew Sherburne
In Search Of...
1997

Sherburne creates a feeling of approximate symmetry by placing dark values on opposite sides of the composition. The similar shapes of the dark values or shadows create a lighter, arch-like shape in the center of the image, suggesting bilateral symmetry without actually using it. This results in a very stable image with more variety than a truly symmetrical design.
