Studio Basics was first created
in 1992 by Tony Crowley, Professor of Art at Grinnell
College. Initially produced as a HyperCard stack, it was designed
and developed as a web-based project in 2001 by David Berk, Instructional
Multimedia Technology Specialist for the Fine Arts at Grinnell
College.
The primary objective of Studio
Basics is to make fundamental information about design and drawing
available to students to explore at his or her own pace. Drawing
upon works from the Grinnell College permanent collection, faculty
work, and student work, Studio Basics allows the user to
interactively examine different works of art within the context
of a particular element or principle of art design.
All of the examples associated with
a particular area can be accessed by clicking on the "View
Examples" button.
We hope you enjoy using this tool
and find it useful in your exploration of artistic design. If you
have any comments about this site, please send them to David Berk
at berk@grinnell.edu.
This version of the project
was made possible by a grant from the
Charles E. Culpeper Foundation.
