Intro Assignment

Read pp. 222-240 of The Craft of Research. Think about your own project in light of this chapter.

Now, write an introduction to your paper.

Include a statement of the problem you are claiming to solve, explain why it is an interesting problem, and then lay out your solution/point/explanation. Having rewritten your topic statement several times you should be more than ready to write this up. Your paper should be 1 to 3 pages in length. This assignment is due April 24.

When you turn in your introduction, you should provide a title page. This title page should provide the title, your name, the class and the date. The title should reflect your overall point in this paper, it should be centered on the page one third of the way down and it should not be underlined or within quotation marks unless it is in fact a quote. The rest of the information on the title page should be at the lower right of the page.

The paper should be typed, double-spaced, indented at the beginning of a paragraph, and with 1 inch margins on all four sides. Keep copies of all drafts in case something terrible happens.

Remember:
1. Title pages are not numbered, the subsequent pages should be, starting with "1."
2. Do not use the passive voice unless you have a good reason for it.
3. You should have a good, one sentence thesis at the end of your introduction.

If you have any questions, call me before it is too late. Your paper is due April 24.
