Bibliography Assignment

On February 26, you should turn in a bibliography. For this assignment I want you to identify for me the secondary and primary works that you currently believe are the most relevant to your topic.

As well as listing your proposed sources, you need to explain to me how these sources will help you write a research paper. You need to convey to me that you have a clear sense of where you are going with this project.

Your bibliography should be formatted as follows:
1. The first sheet should be a cover sheet or title page. This title page should provide your project title one third of the way down the page and centered. In the lower right, please list your name, the class and the date.
2. On the first page, give me a list of your sources. Use standard chicago/turabian formatting. But instead of using alphabetical order, I would like to see you list them in chronological order.
3. On pages 2 and 3, I want you to explain how these sources relate to the intellectual problem you have defined on your topic statement (include a revised topic statement with this assignment in addition to your original topic statement that I marked up). So, list the sources again, but this time for each item you should include three or four sentences that connect back to you research problem.

Note: If you cannot connect a listed source back to your research problem, do not include the item on your list.

For purposes of this assignment you should have at least eight (8) secondary sources. You do not need to have read them yet. You should have skimmed them or otherwise gotten a sense of what they are about.

If you have primary sources you can reduce the number of secondary sources that are required. If you have primary sources, come see me to talk about this. In general, a good group of primary sources will be worth, page-for-page, more than a secondary source.

You need to turn in one copy of this bibliography along with the marked up copy of your topic assignment. Also, if your topic has changed in any way (your sense of the debate, problem, or importance), put together an updated version of your topic assignment. Put them together in a folder or other container that has your name and mailbox number clearly visible on the outside.
