Argument Assignment Read The Craft of Research, pp. 111-181. Think about your own project in light of these chapters. In two pages or less, describe your overall argument. What is your main claim? What is the evidence you have that supports your claim? What sub-claims do you think will be necessary? What evidence do you have for those? I want you to list these pieces out. So when it is done, this assignmnet should look like an outline -- but an outline of a very specific type. Everything should be focused on making a clear, specific argument. Start with the Main Claim at the top of the page. For this assignmnet, model your main claim on the discussion provided on pp. 130-131 of the Booth book. After the main claim, include a section for each subclaim you need to support that main claim. Under each subcliam, list out the pieces of evidence that will support these subclaims. This assignment is due April 9. Since this paper is so short, you do not need to provide a title page. When you turn it in, please bring me one copy as well as copies of all the related assignments. Put them all in a folder with your mailbox number clearly displayed on the outside. |
