Alumni | SEPC | Ninth Semester

The Department of Art offers an opportunity for continued independent study by a studio art major in the semester immediately following graduation. This fellowship provides some financial support for a semester of personal research to develop a stronger portfolio in preparation for graduate work. The Fellowship in Studio Art provides benefits and, with these benefits, come obligations to the Department.

BENEFITS:
A stipend is awarded and an additional budget is provided to offset the cost of art supplies, and a working space is provided in a given studio or elsewhere in the facility as available. All equipment and handtools normally furnished for student use are at the disposal of the Fellow.

OBLIGATIONS and DUTIES:
The Fellow is expected to furnish his/her own supplies beyond the supply budget, serve the Department by assisting with the installation of student shows, help faculty with minor class related jobs, monitor the studio in which he/she is working, give demonstrations in his/her discipline and/or presentations of work in progress when called upon, and present his/her work in a formal exhibition at the conclusion of the semester.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
To apply for the Fellowship in Studio Art, interested senior studio majors should present a letter of application to the Art Department which addresses the following questions:

* Why is the Fellowship in Studio Art important and necessary to me?

* What is the medium in which I plan to concentrate my study?

* What are the goals I have for production and conceptual development?

* What are my plans upon completion of the Fellowship?

In addition to the application letter, a portfolio of art work must be presented for review by the Department. This folio should include a variety of works, but focus on the media in which you wish to concentrate. Ten to fifteen works are recommended for inclusion.

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS:
The application and portfolio are due the 3rd week after Spring Break. Please check back to be aware of any modifications as the deadline approaches.

REVIEW COMMITTEE:
The committee reviewing applications is made up of all Art Department Faculty.
