RUSSIA: Moscow & St. Petersburg

ACTR Russian Language and Area Studies offers the choice of either Moscow or St. Petersburg for its linguistic and cultural immersion programs, which are located at the Moscow Linguistics University, Moscow International University, and the Russian State Pedagogical University in St. Petersburg. The programs endeavor to maximize linguistic and cultural immersion into Russian society through the intensive study of Russian language and opportunities for students to develop their knowledge of Russian history, politics, economics, culture, and society. Language instruction is in small groups (5-7). Classes are taught by full-time Russian faculty members of the host institution. Participants may audit regular university courses with Russian peers and in some cases may substitute two of these courses for ACTR offerings. Academic Year Program participants may undertake an independent study or research project during the second semester. All students may avail themselves of internship or volunteer opportunities in businesses, voluntary or non-governmental organizations. Regular weekly excursions are a part of the program as well as field trips to regions outside of Moscow or St. Petersburg. Housing options are available with host families or university dormitories. Eligibility: Advanced (3 years) or Intermediate (2 years) of Russian.
