BRISBANE:
University of Queensland (Institute for Study Abroad)
Primarily recommended for science division students,
the University of Queensland is recognized as one of Australia's
leading research institutions, numbering 28, 000 students studying
in 61 academic departments. The central library holds more than
1.6 million volumes. The university has one of the largest supercomputers
in the Southern Hemisphere with a campus network interconnecting
more than 5,000 machines. Science Division subjects include Anatomical
Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Entomology,
Geology, Engineering, Physiology, Psychology, Physics, and Environmental
Studies. The university has extensive research facilities throughout
the city and state, including marine research stations in the Great
Barrier Reef. Off-Campus Study students are fully integrated into
the university as visiting students and participate fully in Australian
student life. Accommodation is provided in dormitories with full
access to all campus facilities. Eligibility: Major or substantial
course work in the Science Division. Applications from non-science
students will be considered but must involve a detailed plan for
a specific advanced project supported by their academic adviser.
