JAPAN: Japanese Studies
- Waseda University (ACM) fall
The ACM Japanese Studies program is located on the campus of Waseda
University, one of Japan's premier universities, and emphasizes
the study of Japanese language and culture. Morning classes are
devoted exclusively to language acquisition, and assignments often
take students out into the local community to practice their skills.
Additional classes in English are offered in social studies, arts,
and humanities, covering various topics in Japanese and Asian Studies.
Independent study in the form of social research projects, apprenticeships
in fine arts, and parliamentary internships can be arranged with
the support of the student's home college academic adviser. Extracurricular
activities, especially membership in Japanese student clubs and
sports teams, are encouraged. Students live with host families throughout
the program in Tokyo and also participate in a month-long rural
homestay. A range of field trips is offered, including a visit to
Kyoto. Eligibility: At least one semester of Japanese. Minimum 3.0
GPA.
