The meeting came to order at 4:20 p.m. in the Nollen House Conference Room.
This is a special second meeting for the week of October 9, 2000 called in order to provide Council enough time to consider invited departmental proposals for additive positions.
The minutes and excerpts from the 10/4/00 meeting were corrected and approved.
The Dean noted that Council had approved the nominations for Watson Fellowships electronically during the past week. B. Grey moved, K. Kamp seconded, approval of a motion that would remove the requirement for Council approval from the nomination process for committee nominated post-graduate fellowships in future. The motion was approved.
President's Remarks
The President noted his pleasure with the proposals for additive positions which reflected a serious effort on the part of the departments on short notice.
Discussion of Departmental Proposals for Mellon Postdoctoral Fellows
The Dean noted that Council has received proposals for Mellon Postdoctoral Fellows from the Anthropology and Philosophy Departments. M. Pillado Miller moved, B. Ferguson seconded, approval of the two proposals. The motion was approved.
Discussion of Proposals for Additive Positions
Council received proposals for additive positions from the departments of Anthropology, Art, Biology, Chemistry, Chinese and Japanese, History, the Libraries, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. There was a discussion of these proposals.
Council will consider these proposals a final time next meeting.
