The Dean called the meeting to order at 4:20 p.m. in Nollen House.
Minutes of the Executive Council meeting of May 12 were corrected and approved.
Remarks by the Dean
The Dean reported on the status of admissions to date. We have so far admitted 342 students (our target is 355). We have admitted a modest number of students from the wait list. In 1998 we admitted 393 students and in 1997 455 students. We have admitted 30 international (1998 30, 1997 39), 12 African American (1998 11, 1997 8), 1 Native American (1998 0, 1997 3), 20 Asian American (1998 19, 1997 17), 21 Latino/a (1998 15, 1997 23) students for a total of 54 (1998 45, 1997 51) minority students.
The position in Economics has been filled. Offers will go out soon for Gender and Womens Studies and candidates for the English position will be coming next week. Another candidate will be on campus for the Theatre position late this week.
The narrative on the Campus Master Plan will be up on the Web soon. A letter from the President will also be sent out soon describing where we are in the campus planning process.
Council members commented that meetings will need to be organized to allow faculty members the opportunity to discuss and respond to the Campus Plan which was presented to the faculty last week.
Requests for Faculty Positions
Council continued its discussion of proposals for faculty positions.
At its next meeting, Council will conclude its review of requests for staffing.
